Note
Open requests can be duplicated, making the creation of a similar request more convenient. The duplicate will inherit the size and style of the mold in the original request, however, and cannot be modified later. After duplicating (the duplicate’s ID will be a number greater than the original’s), modify the new request as needed. A unique title is recommended to distinguish the duplicate from the original.
Steps in the Mold-Building Process
A Zero Mold is the first physical mold in the tooling process, cut from foam on a CNC and coated with tooling paint. It represents the negative form of the final part and serves as the foundational structure for creating a high-quality master or production mold.
The Zero Mold is developed from the Zero Master mold and looks identical to the production mold. Constructed with refined surfaces and coated in gel-coat, it undergoes most of the finishing and detailing required for final mold quality and accuracy.
The Master mold is created from the Zero mold and serves as the mold from which all Production molds of the same size and style are cast. It is the negative of the final part and undergoes final finishing and precision work to ensure it produces high-quality, consistent molds.
The Production mold is the mold used to make the actual finished product for the customer. The Production mold is optimized for accuracy, quality, and longevity.
